On June 18, 2005, Frankfort held its first Curt Day Memorial Tournament since the passing of its 3 times World Champion native Clinton Countian Curt Day.  The event was held on the courts named after him.  Two nights before the newly painted sign was put up.
Following are some comments from our president Sam Payne:
Thanks to all of those who helped in getting the courts ready for the Curt Day tourney .  Frank Adams, Kenny Wolf, Pete Smart put a lot of work into getting things ready.  Again there was a lot of comments about how good the clay was.  Several of the class A pitchers commented that the Clay in our pits was some of the best in the State.  Congratulations to Frank Adams for his high ringer percentage patch in his class.  Kenny Wolf and I  pitched in A class where we saw several pitchers in the 60 and 70 percent range.  One at 94% in one game, hitting 17 of 18 thrown shoes at 30 feet.  I feel that it was a very good learning experience for me  and I enjoyed pitching in this class.  It's not all about winning and losing to me.  It's whether you enjoy the game and the sportsmanship between the  competitors.  Believe me there was a lot of respect and sportsmanship shown in the Class that we were pitching in.
We have another tourney coming up in July (Hot Dog Festival Tournament, Saturday, July 30th) that I would encourage members of our league to come out and pitch, keep score or just watch.  If you think you would be interested in pitching, see Kenny Wolf, Frank Adams, Sam Payne or Roger Impson.  Any one of the four of us can keep score for 100 shoes and send your ringer percentage in to get you entered for the tourney.
The sign that Kenny’s daughter painted looks great, good job to Angela. Now to get the building painted and we will have our Courts in Excellent Shape.  I plan on rotating around through the other courts to get them in the same shape as 1-6 are in.
The following additional comments are from Kenny Wolf:
A special thanks goes out as well to Pat Dowden of the Frankfort Moose Family Center for his scorekeeping in the morning and afternoon classes.  Also, thanks goes out to the other scorekeepers Paul Day, Ron Womack, Mrs. Womack, Pete Smart and Frank Adams.  I also kept score in the morning B Class.  (I’m not going to thank myself!)  The results of the Junior Class, B Class and A Class Tournaments are listed on the back page of this newsletter.

The Club House is Presently Getting Some New Coats of Paint

As I write this, the club house is getting some new coats of white paint.  Thanks to several hours of scraping work by Ron Stockberger: Ron, Keith Smith, Sam Payne and Kenny Wolf have begun the painting of the horseshoe club house.  We plan to trim the club house with the same dark blue paint (“teeny bikini” blue) used in the Curt Day Horseshoe Courts sign.  There will still be some work to do, if anyone else wants to join in.  You would be most welcome!
